Enterprise CI/CD Pipelines & Solution Source Control

Developing Power Apps and Power Automate flows directly in production or manually importing zip files creates version drift, breaking dependencies, and untracked changes. We build fully automated Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions pipelines that bring professional software engineering rigor to low-code ecosystems.

Git Unpacking & Branching Strategy

Our automated export pipelines extract unmanaged solutions from developer sandboxes, unpack solution zip files into individual XML, JSON, and PowerFX files using the Power Platform CLI, and commit them to Git. Every change undergoes peer code review through standard Pull Requests.

  • Source Code Granularity: Line-by-line diff tracking for Canvas Apps, Cloud Flows, and Dataverse tables.
  • Trunk-Based & Feature Branching: Strict branch policies preventing unreviewed code reaching upstream environments.
  • Managed Solution Build: Production artifacts generated strictly from committed source code in transient build environments.

Strict Solution Layering & Segmentation

Circular dependencies and monolithic solutions inevitably cause deployment blockages. We architect modular solution hierarchies separating shared foundation tables, integration components, and user interfaces into manageable release units.

  • Core Data Layer: Base Dataverse entities, global option sets, and relationship schemas.
  • Business Logic Layer: Power Automate cloud flows, custom plugins, and business process flows.
  • Experience Layer: Model-driven apps, Canvas apps, and custom PCF visual controls.
Environment Architecture

Four-Tier Multi-Environment Governance

Enterprise compliance mandates strict separation between development, testing, and production data. We configure isolated Power Platform environments with dedicated security groups and zero direct developer access to production.

1

Developer Sandboxes

Dedicated maker environments with synthetic test data where unmanaged customizations occur safely without impacting other teams.

2

Build & Validation

Automated transient environment used exclusively by CI/CD pipelines to validate clean managed solution imports and run Solution Checker scans.

3

User Acceptance (UAT)

Managed solution deployment where business stakeholders test end-to-end workflows with production-like sanitized reference data.

4

Production

Fully locked-down environment accepting strictly managed solutions via automated approval gates. Direct edits are disabled.

Zero Hardcoding Standard

Environment Variables, Connection References & Key Vault

Hardcoding API endpoints, email recipients, or credentials inside flows and apps creates deployment failures and severe security vulnerabilities. We implement automated parameterization across every pipeline release.

Environment Variables

Store configuration parameters (SharePoint site URLs, Teams channel IDs, environment toggles) that update dynamically per target environment during automated deployment.

Dynamic Config JSON

Azure Key Vault Secrets

Integrate Power Platform directly with Azure Key Vault secrets. Client secrets and third-party API keys are retrieved securely at runtime without exposure in source code.

Zero Plaintext Secrets

Service Principal Automation

Pipelines deploy using dedicated Entra ID Service Principals rather than individual user credentials, eliminating outages caused by employee departures or password changes.

Non-Interactive Pipelines
Engineering Roadmap

Structured ALM Implementation Framework

We transition your Power Platform operations from ad-hoc manual imports to fully automated enterprise ALM through a proven 4-stage engineering delivery engagement:

1

ALM Maturity Assessment & Solution Audit

Review existing environments, identify unmanaged customizations in production, analyze solution component dependencies, and design the branching model.

2

Pipeline Infrastructure & Service Principals

Provision Azure DevOps / GitHub repositories, configure Entra ID Service Principals, create environment variables, and establish build validation pipelines.

3

Solution Checker CLI Gates & Quality Rules

Implement automated Solution Checker analysis gates blocking deployments with severe performance, security, or delegation errors.

4

Maker Training, Runbooks & Handover

Provide comprehensive documentation, train citizen and pro-developers on Git pull request flows, and deliver rollback and hotfix runbooks.

Technical Prerequisites & Licensing

Before establishing automated ALM pipelines, organizations should confirm access and licensing requirements:

Source Repository & Pipelines Azure DevOps Services (Basic license) or GitHub Enterprise with GitHub Actions runner minutes enabled for automated pipeline execution.
Power Platform Administration Entra ID Application Administrator rights to register multi-tenant Service Principals with Power Platform System Administrator roles.
Environment Quota Sufficient Dataverse capacity (minimum 1 GB database capacity per sandbox/build/UAT/production environment).

Acceptance Deliverables Checklist

  • Production-ready Azure DevOps / GitHub YAML pipeline repository
  • Solution Checker automated quality gates enforcing clean builds
  • Deployment settings JSON templates and environment variable mappings
  • Emergency hotfix procedure and managed rollback runbook
